Whizz.

This is my Maths Whizz room and as you can see all my bed room is blue Which I think is really cool because I really like blue.

The Straw Obeo Experiment.

Title of experiment: Straw Oboe Experiment

Question:
(What do we want to find out?)
We want to find out if its going to be loud enough for us and also what we want to find out if we put more straws will it be loud it will it still be the same as the first one, and if the sound goes deeper if we put lots of straw or will it be lower.

Hypothesis:  (what do you think will happen?)
I think it will be really loud and it will vibrate into a person ear and it will go through there eardrum and it will go to there brain and there will do all the work. Also what will happened is that it will be really annoying because will always have to blow there straw oboe.

Procedure:
How will we find out?
(Step by step)
Is that first we grab a straw and a scissors and cut the top of the straw but we have to cut the sides and then we put the straw inside our mouth. And if we want to make even more better we can add some holes into it but it has to be small holes.

Results:
What actually happened When we put it to our mouth a sound came out it sounded like a beeping sound from a car horn I didn’t think that it was gonna work but it did at the end of it when we cut it shorter the sound became louder and lower it was so cool.

Conclusions:
We had to try it out to see if it will work or not  and to see if it was loud enough for it to hear it. At the end we learn that it did work and the sorter you cut it the louder it gets for us and when you blow it hard.

Questions:
1. What is producing the sound? What producing the sound is that when you blow the straw and try to make a really weird sound and try to make it loud because Its really cool but also we are producing that sound.
2. What pitch did we get when all holes were closed, compared to when the holes were
open? Is when the hole were closed what happened is that when when went to blow it it sound really funny it but when you add the holes it is really cool because you can make your own sound.
3. What does opening or closing a hole in the straw really mean in terms of vibrating an
air column? Is that if we put holes on them it will still vibrate because it will vibrate under the straw because when we blow it the air will go under the straw.

Questions:
What happens to the pitch as you cut off pieces of the straw? Is that the pitch will go lower and lower because the more you cut it it will go lower and the more you even cut it it will go even lower. Why? The reason it will go even lower because how you cut it it goes even lower and lower.

Plastic Bags.

Plastic Bags by Andre Ngapo, School Journal Part 3. Number 1 2011

WALT: Show our comprehension of the text by identifying the key occurrences.

Success Criteria: I can identify the key occurrences in the text.

Referring to the image on the first page what does the expression on the boys face tell us? I think the first page is all about plastic bags I think its about and plastic bag blowing up top on the air and I think they are trying to get it so they can put something inside it.
What do you think might happen to him in the story? The thing might happened to him is that he is going to follow the plastic bag wherever it goes because I think the plastic bag is special for him.

What do you think the title has to do with the story? The title does got to do something with the story because in the story it looks really windy I think the wind blew the plastic bag away.

Why does Miss Anderson think Trent has been mucking about? Miss Anderson think that trent was mucking around because every time she looks at trent he is always laughing because his friend jason was telling funny jokes to him and he couldn't stop laughing.

Why do you think he was dizzy as he went out of the classroom? The reason trent was feeling dizzy because when he was walking out of the classroom he slipped on someone’s jacket because it was lying on the floor.

What were the differences between Huia and Trent’s bags and Jason’s? Is that jason bag was better than Huia and Trent one because Huia and Trent bag was plastic bag and when they saw Jason bag it was with Sandwich. What do you think about the reason for the differences? Is that there bags are different two with plastic bag and one thats with a new bag which is jason one that has a new bag and Huia and Trent has plastic bags.

What did Trent expect to happen when he went to the principal’s office? He expect that miss Anderson will give him a warning and let him back in class and he will never muck around ever again.

How do you think Trent felt when he found out the real reason for going to the principal’s office? When trent went to the principal’s office he knew the real reason because the principal wanted to tell him that he has to go to a maths competition and compete the whole school.

How do you think Trent felt at the end of the story, why? He felt happy because when he walked to his bag and took it off the hook it was heavy and when he looked inside it was jason sandwiches and he halved it with Huia and Trent was really happy after all.

Have you ever been really hungry? I will always feel hungry because I will always eat my lunch and morning tea in the morning. How did it make you feel? It will make me feel sad because people is eating there lunch and I will be just running around feeling hungry.

The science Roadshow.

On thursday the 22nd class 1 class 4 and also my class we all walked down to Tamaki College for the science road show. As we were walking down I was hanging around with my friends and just talking about what do we think its going to be inside.

When we walked inside I saw all these cool amazing science things that I haven’t seen before because It was just cool. As we walked in there was some Tamaki College student that was already experiencing the science road show.

As I sat down ready for the experience I was really excited because I really like exploring new things like science. Watching all the things that they have done for us was really cool but the one that I really liked was when all of us had to block our ears before they will pop the balloon because it was really loud.

When it was our turn to go and have a little bit of experience I straight ran to the one where you can put you name and laminate I thought that one was the best one even the panion I thought that one was really cool. After the roadshow we all walked back to school.

Week 4 Thinkboard.

This is my Thinkboard of the week which I have done all by myself which I really enjoy because I really like maths and also it is helping me learn my maths because I really need to practice my timetable.

Echolocation.

Your introduction will begin here:
Echolocation is a special noise  that bats use at times because they really can hear really well because they have big ears as the same size of there head.  One thing they are really good at listening and able to pick up things really  quiet because how they have there big massive ears. Bats can find there way by listening to the sound and then following it.

Your body will begin here:
Bats are the best example of Echolocation because bats often uses echolocation. Animals communicate with other animals like whales sing a song, Wolf howls, frog croaks, bird chips even the waggle dance, thats how animals communicate with lots of animals. When animals communicate with other animals its like they are talking to each other but sometimes animals make a  sound signal , that they understand with each other but when animals communicate it looks like they are talking to each other but thats just the way it is for animals. Animals have a really interesting sound they always make like echolocation it is are really interesting sound that most of the animals always make to communicate with other animals  even with people.

Your conclusion will begin here:
If you try yelling inside the cave you will not be able to hear your self echoing, When you echo it vibrates back to you like something bouncing back to you like yelling at the wall your sound will bounce back to you and come through your ear drum, and goes to my brain and the my brain work what that sound is.

If bats didn’t have echolocation they wouldn't be able to do anything because echolocation helps them hear because there eyes is really bad at seeing at night so they use echolocation so they know where they are going.

Experiment.

Name: Asena & Janise)

Title of experiment:

Question:
(What do we want to find out?)
We want to find out if that we can hear our buddy by saying something to each other on the cup and find out if we can hear them really loud. So that what we have to find out together with our buddy.

Hypothesis:  (what do you think will happen?)
Is that some of them won’t be that loud but me and my buddy will try to see if all of it will work really well so that we can hear each other really loud or else we will just shout at each other.

Procedure:
How will we find out?
(Step by step)
The step by step is that first we made a small hole on the cup and then put the small string inside the sup and test it if we can hear each other loud and we did. The 2nd step is to make the hole even bigger so the biggest string can fit inside and then we try it out when we tried all of the strings it was really cool because we were able to hear each other really loud.

happened?

Results:
What actually
Well what actually happened was the skinny string was working because the vibration was going straight through but you could not see it, even though the string is skinny you could still hear. The only problem is, is that if your string is not straight it will not work.
Suddenly when you hear the medium sized one it actually works really well so as the tiny string and what we think is that the big string is not so great because it is wavy you can not hear so great.

Conclusions:
What did we learn?
We learn’t that we have to always make our string tight is we can hear each other and make sure that we don’t make a big hole before it doesn't work.
